I was almost a little worried reading this book because of the comparison of Lord of the Flies (which I cannot stand)

But I finished this book in about 2 days (maybe 3) and I really liked it.

I like the idea that each chapter adds to the various people’s perspective of what happened during the time after the storm

I’ve always enjoyed the premise of a battle royale (and hope to read that book soon) and the idea of being locked in a park. I’m so glad I found this book and was able to experience it

This was a fun read. It gave me similar vibes of John Dies at the End. I also vaguely remember reading this back when it was on nosleep. I’ll probably read the other books but this was a good little pallet cleanser before diving into some other heavier books

On another note, I learned some stuff about rare disorders from this book, so that was cool

This is the second of Blake Crouch’s works that I’ve read - but ironically the first of his I bought

As someone who enjoys small town thrillers and the idea of a town not being what it seems, this book checked for so many of my interests

I started watching Twin Peaks, but never got too far into it. But this book has pushed me to pick it back up again. I may also watch the Wayward Pines tv series - but I may do that after I’ve read the rest of the series

This is going to be difficult to review, if for no other reason than I’ve recently listened to (most) of the original podcast and the new live action series of this story. So I’ll be needing to separate the three in my brain to review this

If you’ve never heard the TEoS story, I feel this is a really good go of the story. I enjoyed the fact that we had more than just Dave, Mateo, Katie and Linda’s perspective and we had additional information from people all around the world

The idea of dying in your sleep is something that you don’t think about until it’s thrown at you like this

If you’re going into this after only seeing the live action series, this will feel very familiar - just with some additions that I feel were very nice to have added

If you’ve come from the original podcast, this is going to feel a LOT different, but don’t feel this was a bad adaption of the story

This was a fun read and what I like to call as a quick “pallet cleanser”

I don’t think I enjoyed this as much as the other book I’ve read from this author. But I can definitely understand why people enjoyed this

Especially if you work in a similar office setting there’s always people like those in this book. It made it a bit uncomfortable at some points because I do know people like both main characters in this book

Did not finish book. Stopped at 26%.
I legitimately tried with this book. I was able to borrow this on kindle unlimited and thought I’d give it a good try. I started this April 2024 (it’s now October 2024)… the premise is interesting and the art was cool from what I saw of it. But I feel this was a mega slog that I just didn’t want to continue through. Maybe I’ll try the audiobook (keyword maybe) but maybe this book just isn’t for me. If it seems like it’s something you want to try, please go for it. Maybe Kindle isn’t the best edition to read it though

This wasn’t…bad. Though maybe this just wasn’t what I was in the mood for. But I’m glad it was short

I also called the main twist about halfway through…so there’s that

I was hesitant to start this book because I barely made it through the first 20 minutes of the movie

But this really didn’t disappoint. The tension was so good. They mystery it the creatures and just having that worry that something could happen at any time

I might even try the movie again

This is difficult book to put into words my thoughts. In a way, this reminded me of Our Wives Under the Sea. But this also had some real isolation horror as well

While the “scares” weren’t a lot, I feel the journey to those scares made this so much better. The description of the bay and the area this took place, I could almost feel what Jack was feeling as he was experiencing them

I’ve never been so far north that the sun doesn’t rise, but the idea of those areas always fascinate me. So reading the (while fiction) experiences of someone who is also seeing that for the first time, was really cool

If you’re wanting an arctic horror, with some beautiful imagery, definitely recommend this book. I may even check out Thin Air

This was a relatively quick read. Each of the numbered chapters was more like 2 chapters with the change of POV

I really enjoyed Adahy’s POV, the imagery in those sections was so fun to have in my brain. The folktales that were in between the chapters helped to lay the ground work for some of the events happening

I’ll admit the first half of the book was a bit of a slog and at about the 60% mark I was thinking it was over - then I realized I was only halfway through and then things fast. I definitely gasped at a few parts as I wasn’t expecting that twist to happen

I look forward to reading the rest of this series of books
