I read this one on a whim and it was a wild ride. I can see how some people might absolutely hate this book but I loved it.
It was hot and steamy but also incredibly dark and twisted. I loved the paranormal aspect. I thought it was a nice touch. There is certainly no happy ending here as the blurb stated.
1.5/5 stars. This was pretty ridiculous. The timeline from the two main characters first meeting to having sex to then being madly in love happened over the span of what felt like 2 days. It was outlandish. Because of this incredibly fast lovers timeline, there was no build up at all. The chemistry was lacking, rushed, and felt unrealistic.
I also am SO incredibly tired of this virginal woman + experienced man trope. I don’t find it attractive or appealing at all to me and I’m so sick of reading it in books. I would love to see the roles reversed.. an experienced woman and a virginal man. Or two experienced partners. And I always have a problem when two characters have sex for the first time (especially when the woman is a virgin) and it’s mind-blowing, orgasmic sex every single time. In reality, the first time normally isn’t that great for women as a whole.
In line with this, I felt it odd for the characters to be talking about children so fast. Hook talking about planting his “seed” *gross* and getting Wendy pregnant was utterly unappealing to me.
Towards the end, they hadn’t been together that long and yet Wendy kills for Hook and then they begin discussing having children? The pacing in this book was awful. If the author had written a more believable and enticing pace, this story would’ve really benefited but instead it felt rushed and inconceivable.
Such a shame. I liked the concept of this book being Wendy and Hook but it didn’t deliver for me.
4/5. I loved that this book was challenging religion and the idea of God but I know for some that’ll be a massive offense. Please take that into consideration before reading this.
I also loved the societal stereotypes against women that this book took up. We get to see how misogyny and religion affects women and the queer community. I thought this was great and this book handled it really well.

Realistically this is probably a 4.5 out of 5 for me but rounding up because I really enjoyed this. I loved the concept, loved the characters, and loved the writing. I originally kept pushing this book off and finally decided to give it a go and was so glad that I did.
I realized I had the audiobook of this so I impulse listened today. I was a pretty big fan of the show but man I don’t think I can continue with this. Elena continues to be insufferable but maybe even more than the show? (If that is even possible)
This just wasn’t enticing to me. I was getting irritated listening to this book and I think I’ll stick to the show honestly.
