I liked this! Chatty and inviting. Just a little taste but a lovely one. Gorgeous illustrations.
Private Rites by Julia Armfield

What? I think Julia Armfield is just not for me. I found this boring and empty, could not find anything in the characters to care about, didn't really get the world, and the ending what? I know it's a retelling of King Lear but she lost me.

Wow, no thank you! So cold. So boring. Save me from these sharp and cutting books that do not love the world. Ugh.
North Woods by Daniel Mason

Hated it. Boring, blah, thin characterization, bonkers nonsensical MA geography, will never forgive Mason for writing a book set in the Berkshires and NEVER USING THE WORD BERKSHIRES, MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. Nothing interesting in here about place or human relationship to place and nature, just nonsense, do not understand why people like it.

Doesn't have the kind of pacing I like in romance, but enjoyed it anyway.

Well, I sure did love this very dramatic book about very dramatic and messy gays.
