The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
5.0
UPDATE: rating increase since reading the second book. the second book had nothing on this first one. therefore they cannot both have a rating of 4 stars. 5 stars it is!
okay, so thought i'd jump on the bandwagon to see what all the fuss was about wholeheartedly convinced that i wouldn't like the style of story at all, as the concept really didn't appeal to me and that i'd find it boring and regret ever deciding to pick it up.
at the beginning i didn't think much of it and the first 25+ pages i found to be quite a bore, but once i pushed though it i was converted. once i got halfway through i found it hard to put down. especially once the hunger games actually began. i kept wanting to know what was going to happen next and because the style of story is so unique i genuinely didn't know where it was going or what would happen or what the characters were going to be facing next.
i think i need to read the next book to really uncover my true feelings for the characters as i don't feel my interpretation of them as it stands now is a truthful one. i feel more of a connection to Peeta than i do Katniss. i feel under the impression that Katniss acting innocently as she is, is a game player. wholeheartedly knowing what she's doing. Peeta i see being much more vunerable and i connect to that more. will my connections and interpretations of the characters change after the next book? i'll have to wait and see...
