Litani by Jess Lourey

5.0

Most thriller/suspense books by Jess Lourey are a hit for me. While this wasn't my favorite, I still devoured it in the span of a couple days because I just HAD to know what happened next.

There was much that I loved about this book. Frankie's relationship with her mother held so many secrets, and it was so dark. All the characters are complex. And it does keep you wondering who the bad guy(s) are. I didn't find that it exactly fit the blurb, though, as we don't find out what The Game is until quite late into the book. There's also a lot of talk about plants and botany (Frankie and her dad's interest), so I also learned a lot too! And I loved how she compared everyone around her to plants, and sketched them, complete with pictures inside the novel.

There are quite a few disturbing bits - mentions of Satanic worship and child abuse (neither are explicit). Litani is definitely a town full of dark, dark secrets, and even more disturbing that this was based on true events.

The ending is satisfying and wraps things up. Recommended for fans of small town mysteries, thrillers, and suspense!
