Circe by Madeline Miller

5.0

It’s been a long time since I truly fell in love with a story. I had Circe sitting on my TBR for close to a year, and I do wish I had picked it up sooner.

What a beautiful, feminist retelling of the Greek goddess and nymph Circe. I adore Greek mythology and had only known her to be a minor character until now. Many of the major players and monsters and mortals make an appearance here, all playing a part in Circe’s long life.

The story is slow and for the most part, quiet, but for me, it didn’t make it any less interesting.

The writing was so lyrical and flowed on the page. Circe’s growth through the centuries from a naive young child to a hardened badass who stands up for herself and the people she loved was such a joy to read. And it had a happy ending.

I don’t have much else to say except that I loved it, and it was one of the very few books to make me emotional while reading.
