I really enjoyed this one. It was fast paced and incredibly entertaining to me. I loved the concept and I appreciated the different POVs showing us how the fungus would affect each person a bit differently.

This book showcased the best and worst of humankind in a state of emergency. It reminded me a bit of The Last of Us combined with Voices in the Snow. If you appreciate gore, mushroom people, and apocalyptic novels, you should enjoy this.

TW: rape.
I wish the corresponding scene with this TW wasn't included. It felt completely unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story in my opinion. <Spoiler>I don't know why the author felt that he needed this to happen to one of the FMC. I'm personally so tired of disgusting (and yes this one was disgusting) rape scenes happening to women in apocalyptic novels. I already found it ridiculous that out of the 3 people that went on this mission.. two of them immediately were having *loads* of sex (pun intended). And then the FMC decides to have sex with the OTHER man after the previous one dies? It was unnecessary and ridiculous to me. None of these characters were lovable to me. If unlikeable characters are a problem for you, then you will not enjoy these ones.

There were also counts of sexism and racism in this book. Maybe the time period that this was written and published had something to do with this and the rape?
