I wish I could I rate this higher. On paper, it’s totally up my alley: religious cults, eldritch horror, childhood friends to lovers, etc. But something about it just isn’t working for me; I’m having a hard time actually connecting with the story. It might be because we’re doing a Christian death cult, but not actually deconstructing anything? It’s kind of just like “whoops guess they were a death cult, well how do we defeat them?” Without any of the inner turmoil from the kid who was raised to believe it and now has to come to terms with his unbelief. Idk, I think it’s still a decent book. If you like cult horror you’ll probably enjoy it. It’s just not for me unfortunately.
